Curtis is seeking a summer day-camp Lifeguard to join a supportive, inclusive, and educational learning community as a member of the camp team. Curtis School is a DK-6 co-ed elementary school whose mission is to “develop, in every child, a sound mind in a sound body, governed by a compassionate heart.” We place an equal emphasis on physical, social-emotional, and character education and instill a growth mindset modeled by faculty and staff who are the best in their craft. 
Our team of lifeguards plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff around the water. We are looking for responsible, alert, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Lifeguards for the summer camp season.

The summer camp Lifeguard will be responsible for overseeing all water-related activities, ensuring the safety of campers and staff at the pool. The lifeguard will monitor water conditions, provide immediate rescue and first aid if needed, enforce camp safety rules, and maintain a positive and safe camp atmosphere. This is a highly visible and important role that requires strong leadership, vigilance, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervising swimming activities at the pool area and ensuring that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Monitoring all swimming activities at the camp’s pool to ensure the safety of all participants.
  • Educating swimmers about improper activities and dangers and enforcing pool regulations and water safety policies.
  • Providing immediate rescue and first aid care when necessary, including performing CPR, providing emergency treatment, and administering first aid as required.
  • Maintaining a high level of awareness while observing campers and intervening in unsafe situations immediately to prevent accidents.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the lifeguard equipment (e.g., rescue tubes, first aid kits, life jackets) and reporting any damaged or missing items to camp management.
  • Assisting with opening and closing duties, including setting up equipment and ensuring that the pool or water area is clean and free of hazards.
  • Remaining off of personal devices at all times during the camp day, with the exception of during the staff member’s break.
  • Serving as a role model to campers by demonstrating professionalism, good judgment, and positive behavior at all times.
  • Reporting any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns to the Camp Directors and documenting them as needed.
  • Performing various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Checking and maintaining proper chlorine and PH count of pool water several times a day.
  • Conducting daily safety checks of all the pool areas.
  • Ensuring that all pool doors/gates and pool areas are secured at the conclusion of all pool activities.
  • Instructing or assisting classes in fundamentals of swimming.
  • Inspecting pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Assisting in monitoring and cleaning locker room area(s) and related facilities and equipment.

Qualifications & Skills
A successful candidate must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a current Lifeguarding Certificate from a Certified Trainer
  • Possess a current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid certificate from a Certified Trainer
  • Be available to work from June 22, 2026 - July 31, 2026
  • Participate in staff training and meetings from June 23, 2026 - June 27, 2026
  • Be able to adhere to a 8:30 am - 2:30 pm daily work schedule
