Talent Show Is Back!

Each year our Student Council mounts a Talent Show that showcases performances by our Upper Elementary 4th through 6th grade students.
This effort includes responsibilities ranging from evaluating the acts and choosing who will be featured in the show to scripting and emceeing the program and acting as stage managers and stagehands.

The auditions were really impressive this year. Preference is given to 6th grade performers, as it is their last chance to be in the show. The acts that were chosen to perform included piano players, singer/guitarists, dancers (solos, duets and a group), a rock band (Black Pearl), and several solo singers.

The Student Council chooses a theme, and this year they landed on “a news broadcast.” Sixth grade Student Council members wrote, memorized, and performed interstitial acts and introduced all of the performers. They did four bits: a lead story, a weather report, a sports report, and a kicker at the end. There was a special cameo from our Curtis Cougar as well! Fifth grade Student Council members worked the curtain, welcomed and helped seat guests, and worked as stage managers (making sure acts came on time and in proper sequence) and stagehands (moving set pieces, microphones and amps on and off the stage).

Because of COVID-19 protocols, the event was live-streamed for our community this year. Only the parents of the performers and of Student Council members were able to attend in person. Nevertheless, our students, faculty and staff cheered on the performers from their classrooms and offices, and, after a year’s hiatus, we are so grateful that we were once again able to celebrate this special moment in the year for our students and school community.

Our sincere thanks go out to David Frank, Performing Arts Teacher, and Student Council Advisors Angela Favreau and Francesca Gerbino, for their guidance and support of Student Council in bringing us this annual event, and to Issac Castro who managed the livestream and DJ’d the background music.
